Mind Over Money Retirement Workshops: What matters most in retirement advice communication

The Mind Over Money Retirement Workshops were designed to help financial professionals better understand the emotional and behavioural needs of retirees and near- retirees, and to translate that insight into clearer, more client-centred conversations.

To set the scene for the workshops, NextWealth conducted research with consumers prior to the events, exploring how advised clients think and feel about retirement – what worries them, what reassures them, and how they want advice communicated.

Why this matters

Most retirement communication starts with products. Mind Over Money starts with people; their mindsets, motivations and anxieties. By combining adviser ideas with real consumer validation, the programme shows that effective communication must be emotionally intelligent, evidence-supported, and tailored to behavioural needs.

This approach strengthens trust, improves engagement, and supports more confident retirement decisions.

This summary brings together the outputs from the workshop discussions, which were retested with consumers by NextWealth. This approach created a valuable ‘closed loop,’ showing which messages resonate, which lead to confusion, and how communications can more accurately reflect the emotional drivers behind real decision-making.
